Incanta Technologies is Canadian-owned and based in Ottawa. For us, building Canadian defence software means developing the expertise to understand a product and take responsibility for it over time.
That includes the less visible parts of the work: knowing how calculations are made, how records are stored, which dependencies the application uses and how changes will be maintained.
Keep the knowledge with the product
A useful capability needs people who can investigate a problem and explain the result. Source code, documentation and repeatable checks help that knowledge survive beyond a particular development session.
We want technical decisions to be understandable to the people responsible for supporting them. A choice about storage or a planning algorithm should have a reason that can be revisited as requirements change.
Make continuity a design decision
Defence software may need to remain useful on the user’s own machine, with limited connectivity and information that must be retained. Those needs belong in the architecture from the beginning.
For Aerlattice, they lead us toward a local workspace and an explicit record of plans and decisions. The aim is to build something we can keep improving here, with a clear understanding of what it does and how it works.
